With cotton top tamarins from the tropical forests of South America, porcupines from Africa, our amazing new aquatics centre and all the kids’ favourites in our PETALZ petting barn, you can enjoy a fun filled family day out in Northumberland. What’s more, with regular handling sessions and talks by our zoo keepers throughout the day, there’s something to entertain everyone!
Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens offers both an educational and fun day out and we pride ourselves on offering enclosures that replicate all of our species natural habitats. A number of our animals are also part of international breeding programmes, helping to preserve endangered populations in the wild. For all of you animal lovers out there we offer a wealth of opportunities for you to get up close and personal with a variety of creatures. After years of hard work Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens were delighted to gain full membership of BIAZA in April 2014. The zoo achieved the membership by completing a mentoring scheme with members of two BIAZA associated zoo collections. All areas of the zoological gardens were assessed during a series of mentor visits including record keeping, welfare of animals, ethical review process, licensing, diets, education and health and safety. This membership places Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens in a unique position alongside just three other college collections in the UK that have BIAZA membership and over 100 other leading zoological collections in the UK. As well as our vast collection of animals you can wander through and enjoy our lovely walled, woodland and ornamental garden, we also have a play area, picnic areas, a tea room and gift shop, 120 metre zip wire, high ropes and a regular programme of fun kids’ activities. A fun day out for all of the family!

Myself and my other half visited and had a lovely few hours wandering around, the animals all look very happy and well kept...there are good information boards around telling you about the animals. I would recommend feeding the parakeets which only cost an additional £1 overall a nice morning was had.
